Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a condition that affects emotions, physical health, and behavior during certain days of menstrual cycle of women.

Premenstrual Syndrome occurs in one to two weeks before a woman’s period or just before her menses. The cause of PMS is until unknown but is believed to be related to interactions between sex hormones and brain chemicals.

Women may experience it during their monthly cycle, after ovulation and up to the onset of menstruation or a day or two into menstruation.

Causes of PMS :

  • PMS is a hormonal imbalance, particularly with estrogen and  progesterone.
  • It mainly occurs due to irregular fluctuation of the primary hormones in menstrual cycle.
  • Stress can be the cause of PMS.
  • External weight loss or gain.

Symptoms :

The most common symptoms of PMS are :
