An eating disorder is a mental disorder defined by abnormal eating habits. It always give a negative affect of the physical or mental health of a person.

Generally, eating disorders include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder and affect both gender ( females and males ).

Actually, this is a serious and often fatal illness which disturb the eating behaviors of a person. The people affected with eating disorder, eat a large amount in a short period of time.


Causes of eating disorder :  

The cause of eating disorders is not clear. However, the known contributing risk factors include :

  1. Genetic vulnerability
  2. Psychological factors
  3. Socio-cultural influences

Types of eating disorders :

The most common types of eating disorder are:

Anorexia nervosa :

It’s patient have obsessive fear of gaining weight, refusal to maintain a healthy body weight and an unrealistic perception of body image. In this disease, the risk of death is goes higher.

Its symptoms are :

Bulimia nervosa :

The person affected with this disease have recurrent and frequent episodes of eating unusually large amounts of food and feeling a lack of control over these episodes.

Its symptoms are :

  • Chronically inflamed
  • Sore throat
  • Swelling in neck and jaw area
  • Electrolyte imbalance

Binge-eating disorder :

The person affected with this disease lose control over his or her eating.

Its symptoms are :

  • Eat a large amounts of food in a short period of time
  • Eating even when you’re full or not hungry
  • Eating alone

Sign and Symptoms of eating disorders :

  • Chronic dieting despite being hazardously underweight
  • Depression
  • Constant weight fluctuations
  • Change in mood
  • Hoarding large amounts of food
  • Irregular menstrual periods
  • Obsession with calories and fat contents of food
