Hookworm Infection || Its Cause, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment

Hookworm infection is caused by  intestinal parasite ( parasites live off other living things ). Generally it infect those countries of people, who leave in poor sanitation and a warm, moist climate. Mostly this infections occur in Africa, the Americas, China and southeast Asia and India.

According to a survey,  576 million to 740 million people in the world are infected with hookworm. Hookworms can be occurs in household pets, including dogs and cats.

The eggs of Hookworm are found in soil that’s been contaminated with human faeces. It can infect people if their bare skin comes into contact with the soil – for example, if you were walking barefoot. Generally it affects the area of lungs and small intestine of your body.


Symptoms :

  • Loss of appetite
  • Fever
  • Skin rash in one area that is typically red, raised, and itchy
  • Weight loss
  • Diarrhea
  • Breathing complications such as wheezing and cough
  • Stomach pain
  • Feeling tired
  • Blood in your stool
  • Nausea

Causes :

Hookworm is caused by  intestinal parasite. There are two types of infection :

  1. Necator americanus
  2. Ancylostoma duodenale.

Home remedy :

Coconut :-

Coconut is a very effective remedy for all types of intestinal worms.

  • Eat 1 teaspoon of crashed coconut in breakfast.

After 3 hours :

  • Take 1 glass of warm milk.
  • with two tablespoons of castor oil.
  • Mixed it well.
  • Drink it daily.

Repeat this process daily, until it cure.

Garlic :

Garlic is an anti-parasitic food that helps to deal with any type of intestinal worms.

  • Take 3 cloves of raw garlic.
  • Wash it well.
  • You may remove its skin.
  • Eat this cloves of garlic on an empty stomach.

Do it regularly ad get the result in a week.

Green Papaya :-

Green papaya is good for many ailments, including intestinal worms.

  • Take a bowl.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of green papaya juice in it.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of honey in it.
  • Now, add 3 to 4 teaspoon of hot water in it.
  • Mix it well.
  • Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach.

After 2 hours :

  • Take 1 glass of warm milk.
  • Add 2 teaspoon of castor oil in it.
  • Mix it well.
  • Drink it.

Do this process 2 to 3 times a day.

Note :- For children, reduce the dosage to half.

Neem :

Azadirachta indica also called Neem is an anti-biotic tree. It acts as an evergreen magical treatment for many diseases. Neem is rich in vitamin C and E content and is full of medical property.

  • Take a pan.
  • Heat it.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of butter or ghee in it.
  • Heat it.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of dry neem flowers in it.
  • Fry it.

Eat them with plain boiled rice twice daily for four days.

Note :- Pregnant women should not consume it.

Carrot :

Carrot is the rich source of beta-carotene, a precursor for vitamin A which can destroy the eggs of intestinal worm.

  • Grate two carrots.
  • Eat them on an empty stomach first thing in the morning.
  • Avoid to eat anything else during the morning.

Do this process daily for a week to get rid of intestinal worms.

Turmeric :

Turmeric is an ayurvedic herb. Its biological name is Curcumin. In Ayurveda, it is used in medicine.

  • Take raw turmeric.
  • Extract the juice from it.
  • Add a pinch of salt to one teaspoon of this juice.
  • Drink it in morning time on an empty stomach.

Repeat daily for a week and get imagine result.


Diagnosis & Treatment :

General Treatment :
  • Avoid to consuming soil.
  • Wearing shoes, especially in soiled areas.
  • Drink salt water.
  • Don’t use the fertilizer made from human feces.
  • Wear gloves and shoes when gardening.
Medical Treatment :
  • You will need medication for one to three days.
  • High white blood cell count indicates the presence of this infection.
  • Chest X-Ray is used for checking lung involvement in hookworm.
