Leukemia is a group of cancer of body’s blood-forming tissues, including your bone marrow ( produces blood cells ) as well as your lymphatic system. It occurs due to the problem with the production of blood cells.

 

In leukemia, there are high numbers of abnormal white blood cells ( potent infection fighters ), that are not fully developed, occurs on your body. These white blood cells are known as blasts or leukemia cells.

The symptoms of leukaemia occurs due to a lack of normal blood cells of your body. Its symptoms are including bleeding and bruising problems, fever, feeling tired.

According to a survey, leukaemia is most likely to affect people over the age of 55 years, but it is also the most common cancer in those people whose age is under 15 years.

The doctors find the disease by asking you the sign or symptoms of it. If you have the sign that suggest leukaemia than the doctor suggest you the following diagnostics :

  1. Blood tests : to determine the abnormal levels of red or white blood cells or platelets.
  2. Physical exam : physical exam, such as pale skin from anemia, swelling of your lymph nodes, and enlargement of your liver and spleen, helps to find leukaemia.
  3. Bone marrow test : It helps to look for leukemia cells.

Treatment :

The treatment of leukaemia depends on many factors, such as age and overall health, type of leukaemia, and whether it has spread to other parts of the body, including the central nervous system.

Some common treatment are including :

  1. Chemotherapy : A drug treatment that uses chemicals to kill leukaemia cells.
  2. Targeted therapy : A drug treatment that uses to attack specific vulnerabilities within the cancer cells.
  3. Stem cell transplant : Replace your diseased bone marrow with healthy bone marrow.
  4. Biological therapy : Help your immune system to recognize and attack leukemia cells.
